“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”
Luke 12:48
All children come to school with unique gifts; we expect them to embrace, nourish and use their individual gifts to the best of their abilities.
Pre-Kindergarten

We offer a five-day program for families interested in pursuing an early school experience for their young children. Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) students must be 4 on or before October 15, of that school year and must be toilet trained. The goal of our Pre-K program is to provide a nurturing and sequential curriculum, which includes activities to aid in the development of gross and fine motor skills, spatial awareness, social skills, and emotional well-being, to help them achieve and succeed. Our program runs from 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. and has built in times for snack, lunch, and rest. Pre-K children also qualify for our after-school program which runs daily for an additional charge. Because Pre-K is not a required school program, families may find that some of the tuition and the after-school program is tax deductible. Pre-K does not, therefore, qualify for Financial Assistance.
Students are exposed to all facets of St. John’s Catholic School’s curriculum. Pre-readiness skills are introduced in the areas of Language, Reading, and Writing. Students explore colors, numbers, religion, learn through exploration, and develop gross and fine motor skills. Children have access to our specialty area teachers in Art, Physical Education, and Music. They attend religious events, such as weekly Mass and School Prayer and have daily Faith Formation activities. They are fully integrated into the school day.
Kindergarten

We offer a full-day program to children who are 5 years old on or before October 15, of that school year. The Kindergarten students are active members of the larger school community of children through grade 8. Kindergarten students attend weekly instructional reading times at the Curtis Memorial Library with whom the school has a special relationship. All students have daily activities in all academic areas, but especially in Reading, Language, Writing, and Mathematics.
Our Language Arts program utilizes “the Letter People” which includes the sequential introduction of letter and sound relationships, visual discrimination, and skills retention.
Science and Social Studies activities occur on a weekly basis.
Most activities are hands on and encourage the strong development of gross and fine motor competence. Students also participate in: Physical Education, Art, and Music lessons.
